I feel like reading some comics! reading them always makes me want to draw and make stories myself. Anyone know any? I mostly enjoy creature comics for whatever reason (I don't think I'm alone here), but I won't shy away from other genres/topics. If you recommend something you enjoy, I'll take a look, whatever it is!
Though I'd prefer if you'd recommend something with at least ten pages or so. It's always such a bummer finding something that looks cool but which then has gone and stopped after like six pages
(looks at my own storyboard-thing. Errh) If it is of at least average quality (whatever that is) that is also a nice bonus. Again, not picky. Curious to see if there's something obvious I've been missing out on
Here are some that I've read (that I can think of and is memorable enough for me to recall right now), and enjoyed more or less. Won't include any with less than 10 pages.
"The first King" by HydraKarina. TLK-fan comic, which I like, enjoyable, fresh story and best of all: Lots of pages to read, 91! Last updated may 2016.
"Missing Pieces" by AudreyCosmo, 'nother TLK one. I like this a lot, and it's kind of a classic in the lion king fan community. Doesn't look crazy super polished but it's more than fine since it's got freaking 140 pages and was last updated in april 2016. Link to gallery, because the first pages don't include "next" link: audreycosmo13.deviantart.com/g…
"Hidden stories" by Kati-Kopa, another classic TLK-comic. Kinda goofy sometimes and not the greatest art, but the writing is pretty heart-wringing. Also loooads of pages, 160 as far as I can see, although there might be more available on fanart.lionking.org. Creator is German, and not all pages are translated. Last updated february 2015 (on dA)
"Trials of the Heart" by Wild-Hearts. Horse-comic, a rare refreshing sight! A respectable amount of pages too, 33 so far. Last updated may 2014.
"Guardians" by Akeli. Fantasy-ish creature comic, I'm not really sure what's going on (probably on purpose) but it looks cool. About 40 pages available, but hasn't been updated since 2011.
"Giderah" by Plaguedog. I didn't think I'd like this but it's intriguing and's got a cool style, and it's not super cliché disney-style woofies. Only 30 pages though, and haven't been updated since 2011.
"Black Blood Alliance" by KayFedewa, the first woofie-comic that everyone on devianatart tried to copy. I'm not a huge fan, but the characters are distinctive and the story is well told and not all-over-the-place like most of it's copycats. And it has gorgeous backgrounds. The first comic was cancelled (I'm pretty sure?) but they attempted a reebot (so far only 8 pages), which hasn't been updated since january 2015. Worth mentioning, still!
"Offwhite" by Akreon. I read this a while ago and see that it has 230 pages now. I guess this is what I'll be reading next. I can't remember much, but I think it was off to a slow start, but the plot is intriguing and it looks kinda somber/dark which I like. Last updated april 2016.
Of actual finished printed and published comicbooks there's also:
"The Pride of Baghdad" by Brian Vaughan. My favorite creature comic so far. Maybe my favourite comic overall. It's awesome and doesn't shy away from serious themes/imagry. 136 pages with an actual conclusion (what do I do, I'm not used to comics reaching a conclusion)
"Maus" by Art Spiegelman - just amazing book about jewish mice, nazi-cats and american dogs. More about war than creatures, but it's really really good.
"Laika" by Will Eisner - about the dog laika, who went into space. drawings are pretty simple, but oh my god it's really emotional.
I guess there are mangas too, I've read Conan the detective, death note and ginga densetsu gin. They're ok, but I don't think I'd ever read them again. :/
WELL that's it that I can think of. I know I've looked at at least a hundred other webcomics through the years but these are the ones that I can remember specifically right now. I'm sure I've forgotten quite a few others that I like too, sorry if I have ;-;
Anyways if you know any not mentioned above that you think I or anyone in the comments might enjoy, please share!
Maybe you'll discover a new comic or two too!
Sorry for kinda badly formatted journal, haha UPDATE:
WOAH I got a bit more recommendations than anticipated - but that's awesome! I've got lots to read now. Most recommended was Africa, Asmundr (and Home), Chakra, lackadaisy, and lots of others - so I HAVE been missing out on obvious stuff. I read "Home" yesterday without realizing it was a sequel (or is it a prologue) to Asmundr, but I still liked it. So I'll read Asmundr next! I also went and ordered The Pride of Baghdad because I want to read it again, and since it's one of my favourites I should probably own it by now.
I don't have time to reply to all of your comments right now, but I'm super happy to have all of these recommendations handy. Thank you all!
